Offset Printing vs. Digital Printing

There are two methods of printing that can be used based on the projects you want to produce. These are offset printing and digital printing. Here are some of their differences and the advantages of using them.

Offset Printing

Offset printing is a method which makes use of aluminum plates in transfering images on a rubber blanket. These images are rolled to a sheet of paper. Because the ink is indirectly moved to the paper, the term offset is used to describe this method . Offset printing is best when printing in bulk because it provides more accurate color reproduction and more professional looking results.

Advantages:

  • Cost-effective for bulk printing
  • Custom inks are more available
  • A large variety of paper types can be used
  • More detailed and higher quality printing

Digital Printing

Digital printing is a more common printing method used in offices and at home. It does not use a metal plate to print on paper, but instead uses toners (for laser printing) or ink (such as Brother Inkjet Cartridges). This method is preferred when printing small quantities because it is cheaper. When printing a hundred flyers or fewer, businesses often opt for digital printing.

Advantages:

  • Lower set up costs
  • You can print any amount at any time, and won’t have to wait until it reaches a certain bulk in order to save on printing
  • Inexpensive refills
  • Easily accessible refills from different brands such as Canon Inkjet Cartridges and Brother Inkjet Cartridges
  • More efficient for businesses that need faster printing production

Offset and Digital printing each have their own pros and cons. The key here is knowing what you need in order to find the right method of printing for your needs.
